Continue to Shop Local During COVID-19

The COVID-19 outbreak has changed practically every aspect of our lives including how we shop. While it's easy to hop on our computers and order everything online, keeping our local pet stores in business is critical. If you're ready to restock, here's an update from a few of our favorite neighborhood pet stores, so you can keep shopping local.

While Bainbridge Island's B.I. Barkery has temporarily closed its brick and mortar store, they have happily seen a 200% increase in online sales with over 100 products added to the website in the last month. You can find everything from collars and leashes to toys and treats -- and best of all, delivery on the island is free and off-island orders receive a flat shipping rate of $6.95 (pictured here is one of their very happy customers).

The store will remain closed until at least May 4, but you can keep up to date on their Facebook page, and order products on their website as well as over the phone at 360.473.8781.

Pet Elements, located in West Seattle, remains open with their same schedule:

Mondays - Fridays: 10am – 7pm
Saturdays: 10am – 6pm
Sundays: 10am — 5pm

However, according to owner Melanie Wells, the schedule may change, so be sure visit their Facebook page or call 206.932.0457. For now, they ask that only serious shoppers enter the store; in other words no drop-ins or visits. “We are requiring hand sanitizing/washing; no gloves are allowed unless they are new and put on once in the store,” says Melanie. Social distancing is required, and they prefer you use cash for your purchases.

Better yet, simply take advantage of their newly-implemented curbside pickup!

Our friends at All The Best Pet Care continue to provide essential goods for your furry pal -- however, they’ve reduced their shop hours to allow for extra cleaning and sanitizing (learn more about their new safety measures here).

Just like other pet stores, they'd love to see you and your pooch around the store, but they're encouraging everyone to order online with either quick in-store pickup or curbside delivery. You can also get same-day local delivery through Prime Now.

“Many of our customers have pets with very specific dietary needs, so staying open for them is definitely an essential service. Our customers have been so appreciative and understanding as we adjust to operating during the shelter in place order. Clearly, our sense of community is strong and we'll work together through this difficult time,” says Annie Blankenau-McCall.

Lastly, Mud Bay also remains open, but with limited hours:

Mondays – Fridays: 11am — 7:30pm
Saturdays – Sundays: 9am – 5:30pm

Before visiting one of their shops, check out their store location page for more information.

Like the others, Mud Bay has implemented extra safety measures to keep all of their stores clean, sanitized and safe for everyone. They’ve recently designated a handwashing station at the entrance, where employees and customers can wash their hands before entering the store and of course, social distancing is in place. Curbside pickup is also available. For more information about this service, check out their guidelines here.

While it may feel like our lives have been put on hold -- or worse, turned upside down -- knowing local businesses such as our neighborhood pet stores are here for us and our four-legged friends is reassuring. However, they need us too, so let's do our part and continue to shop local.
