Ways to Bond with Your Dog Indoors

Given the current situation, if there's anyone that would feel happy since the whole family's home—it's your pooch.

Social distancing is a crucial safety measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and it has required everybody to stay at home... together with our furry pets.

If you used to spend most of your day outdoors (whether for school or work), now is the time to make the most out of the situation and enjoy bonding time with your dog at home. Here are a few activities that you can include in your to-do checklist.

Teach New, Fun Tricks

In-house training is an activity that'll never get old. Do you want to bond with your dog as she learns something new from you? This is a great pastime.

You can start with the most basic commands if you've never tried it before. If your pooch already knows a thing or two, it's nice to refresh her mind with those.

For advanced commands, you can challenge yourself and your pal to teach her how to spin several times in a row or close the door on her own!

After successfully training Fido, just don't forget to give a few treats!

Play Indoor Games

There are a lot of games that you can play with your dog, but most of them require both of you to go outdoors. Since everybody's at home, you can entertain your furry pal with some indoor games!

Have you ever tried "treat hunting" with your dog? With this game, you have to hide the treats in different parts of the house (whether it may be in the corners of a room, under the furniture, or beside the bed) and let your dog sniff until she munches all of them!

Of course, don't forget to hide all of them when Fido is not around. Once the game starts, it's still advisable to guide her just to make sure she won't sniff anything toxic and dangerous.

Now, how about "tug-of-war"? It's a pawsome activity too! Just make sure that there's enough open space where both of you can play together. Set aside all the furniture or decor pieces that might get affected. Then get a toy ideal for tugging.

This can be fun to do right off the bat, but it's always best to train your pooch with the release command. This will help you control the game.

Toys, Toys, Toys!

While you're busy cooking in the kitchen or vacuuming all over the room, you can leave her on her own with a few dog toys.

Playing is not a mere physical activity—but a mental exercise as well. Hence, it's time to invest in interactive toys. Interactive toys encourage playing that stimulates your dog's brain. If she gets the game right, she'll be rewarded with a few treats.

So, you can simply buy wobblers, treat balls, puzzle games, and more! Playing interactive toys is surely a great time killer.

Watching Favorite TV Shows or Movies

You've probably seen this dog crying while watching the Lion King, and guess what? Your dog can watch it too!

Although your dog doesn't watch TV shows or movies the same way you do, she can definitely recognize a few movements and sounds. After a long day of doing household chores, you can simply sit on the sofa with your pooch and look for something to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or other streaming apps.

If you find a great enjoyable flick, she'll put her 100% focus on it.

Grooming Sesh

Aside from playing, dog care is essential too, and this includes dog grooming.

For this, you have to own a dog grooming kit with the right tools. Trim her hair, nails, and brush her to aim a shiny and healthy coat. It might be challenging to groom your pet at home, so make sure that Fido feels safe and comfortable before making any attempts. Dog treats can help, so make sure to have a bunch after the grooming sesh!
